Our Story
Finding Inspiration from the Past
In 1939 Lily and Cyril Virgin built their brand new home and bakery business at Lightgate in South Petherton. Many years later, we bought the house for our growing family. Neighbours remembered the old Bakery, now long gone, and the crispy crusty bread they had once enjoyed. As I loved baking, I decided to re-start the bakery business, so that people today can still enjoy good wholesome locally produced food. It has grown from a few cakes made and sold in a 3x4 shed on our driveway in 2022, to a purpose built cabin-shop, with a large new kitchen today. We grow much of the fruit used in the cakes ourselves, all the flour is organic, with butter and cheese supplies by Longmans. No ultra-processed ingredients are used and the bread is made the traditional way with a long fermentation period and no additives or preservatives.
